Why I'm breaking up with my skinnies (at least for now)

Of all the classics to have had a revival this year, denim has had to be one of the most exciting. We've seen everything from embroidery and embellishment to frayed hems and flares. It's been an interesting journey to watch.

I think it's safe to say that denim is definitely having a moment in fashion. But what's more interesting is that the infamous skinny jean is taking a back seat this season, in exchange for a more relaxed fit. I know, who would have thought it?

This season we're going back to basics with vintage cuts, frayed hemlines and high-rise waists.

And it's not just our designers who are taking note.

Lately I've found myself sidelining my skinny jeans for a more relaxed fit. I've spoken about my love for straight leg jeans before, but it's safe to say that it's not a fleeting obsession. These vintage inspired Farleigh jeans from ASOS are my new favourite pick.

They're high-rise, sit tight around the hips and taper out to a flattering cigarette style. I find the fit much more flattering than skinny jeans, especially when paired with this season's pointed loafer. I love the contrast between the smart shoe and the slightly distressed jean.

But if you're not a heels girl, don't stress - they work equally well with a satin bomber and your favourite revival trainer.

How will you wear the look?
