A postcard from Portugal...

Allowing me to wear white is never a good idea. If my family are reading this, I’m sure they’re already shuddering at the thought.

As a baby, I would always have some sort of chocolate smeared across my bib, and unfortunately my messiness is a trait that’s followed me into adult life.

Give me an ice cream and it’s going to end up down the leg of my jeans. Buy me a coffee and I’m going to spill it all over my dress.

It’s safe to say that wearing white never ends well for me. Yet every summer I find myself falling completely and utterly in love with it. If you were to check my ASOS wish list, you’d know exactly what I mean…

It’s a love affair that’s heightened whenever I go on holiday and the prospect of tanned skin and espadrilles are also on the cards.

Against my better judgement I find myself wistfully hovering around the white jeans section in Zara or glumly pawing at the pretty cotton dresses in Mango in the hope that this will be the year that I make it through the summer without a grass stain or a lipstick smear.

I also got a fresh bout of inspiration whilst looking through Lizzy Hadfield’s pictures from a recent trip to Madrid. After wasting another evening obsessing over her perfectly neutral combinations, I decided to bite the bullet and pull out this dress from All Saints. It’s been patiently sat in my wardrobe for the past year, waiting for me to pluck up the courage to take it for another outing.

So while in Portugal I decided the time had come to take it for another spin, and I couldn’t have been happier with how it looked, especially on the beach.

This dress from All Saints is unfortunately out of stock, but this dress from Boohoo is the perfect alternative. Wear with sandals and a straw bag for a perfect night out look, or team with your bikini and tousled waves for a day at the beach. Ketchup stains and wayward sun cream splatters are optional...
