It's autumn, bring on the blazers

Because blazers are kind of my thing...

I'm obsessed with blazers. Keep walking, nothing new to see here.

Give me a fancy button, interesting fit or black t-shirt to pair it with, and I'm there. I've been known to have more blazers than there are days of the week and in a moment of weakness last week they were all I wore.

Luckily, there's plenty to choose from. Check, ruffles, millennial pink - it's all going on.

When it comes to styling up my blazers, it's fairly self explanatory. Keep your base dark, your ankle boots high and your accessories super casual. It really is that simple, but then again where's the fun in that?

I've decided to throw myself in at the deep-end and try something new. A week of blazers - no jeans, no t-shirts, no all black ensembles.

Spoiler alert, it was interesting. It wasn't easy and there were definitely some frantic mornings when getting ready for work was more stressful than any day in the office, but there were also some discoveries. Here's what I learned...

Colour can be fun
I've never been one for colour. My blazers are, and will always be,  a tonal mix of blue, black and green.  This week has challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and look for new ways to style my blazers.  It's brought me into uncharted territories, but I've quite enjoyed it.

From the depths of my wardrobe, I've pulled out blush skirts and fushia trousers and although,
nothing's easier than reaching for a pair of black skinny jeans in the morning, they've definitely cheered me up on my way into work.

It's all in the planning

No matter how hard I try, I'm rarely ready on time. It's a real struggle.

I start off thinking I've got all the time in the world and then before I know it, I've got five minutes to pack my bag, do my hair and get dresses - which can be particularly tricky when you're trying to put a little more thought into your outfits.

In the interests of this experiment, I've been trying to plan my outfits the night before. Although it's been cutting into my nightly obsession with Celebs go Dating, it has meant I haven't been late for work once this week.

Falling in love with old favourites

The bottom line is that it's been fun. There were moments when I wondered if anyone would actually notice if I reverted back to my usual uniform for a trip to the shops,  but I stayed strong. Commendable, I know.

The thing is, the feelings were easily silenced when I opened my wardrobe and appreciate what was actually in there. I've ended up discovering some old favourites along the way too, which is never a bad thing.
